TILES MORE SIMPLE

Most people approach installing a new bathroom by selecting the sanitary ware – and then thinking about the tiling. But choosing the right tiles can be tricky when you have to make your decision by looking at a sample board or taking a single tile home. And imagining how your whole bathroom will look when it’s tiled is always something of a lottery.

That’s why specialist tile retailer Rogers Ceramics has opened a fantastic tile and bathroom showroom at its Crawley branch. Not only does this extensive new “one-stop shop” offer customers the option of buying their bathroom suite and tiles together as a package.

But people can also see for themselves what Rogers Ceramics’ top selling tiles look like in a series of specially created bathroom settings. In fact, with 100 sq.metres of floor space, there are around 24 fully tiled bathroom settings to view at any one time in the showroom. The bathroom settings are fitted with an extensive range of quality sanitary ware brands, such as Manhattan,Bette, Aqualisa, Niagara, Ideal showers and glass shower enclosures.

Tiling is chosen to complement each suite and the showroom also sells bathroom fixtures, fittings and accessories. “As specialist tile distributors and retailers, we feel this new showroom is a great way to display our extensive range of stock,” says Managing Director Tony
Rogers. “We had a room above the main showroom that wasn’t being used much and we decided to pick up
on the trend for showing products in lifestyle settings
by turning it into a showroom for tiles and bathrooms.

“This is a very exciting venture for us because we’re moving forward from being a tile shop to creating a whole shopping experience. “Getting your tiles right is crucial to achieving the overall look, feel and ambience you want for a new bathroom,” says Tony. “And this is even truer now that most suites are white. However many people often leave buying their tiles until the last minute. “People can really struggle to visualise what a whole tiled wall will look like, especially when they’re trying to get a complementary match with their sanitary ware. It can be a very hard thing to get right,” Tony explains. “But seeing the tiles in a dressed bathroom setting makes it much easier to make a decision.

Our customers have been really impressed with the bathrooms we’ve created – and many are buying both the sanitaryware and tiles from particular displays because they know they look good together.” Another reason for the happy customers is that, in addition to their usual competitive prices.

Tony and his team can also recommend tilers and bathroom fitters for your package. What’s more, by shopping at Rogers Ceramics you’ll be supporting a family wholesale and retail business, which has been going for 43 years. Indeed, Tony’s son, Peter, has been put in charge of the new showroom.

So what’s changed during this time and what are the latest trends for tiles and bathrooms? “Sanitaryware is now predominantly white, while simple, modern designs are in vogue”, says Tony. Shower technology has come on no end and Rogers Ceramics sells a wide range of showers and baths. Meanwhile natural or plain colours are popular for tiling, in particular stone or marble effect finishing. For example, Calcutta is an incredibly realistic marble look-a-like. tile, while Forum has a very nice stone effect.

Rogers Ceramics also stocks colour ranges of tiles. Another shift in tastes has been towards bigger tiles. Dimensions now start at 25cm by 33cm for wall tiles and 30cm by 30cm for floor tiles. And Rogers Ceramics
sells tiles that are up to 60cm by 30cm and can be used for floors or walls, which is now in demand.

Finally, in the last five years, tiles have gone from being glazed and clay fired to being predominantly made from porcelain. This is good news because it means longer and harder wearing tiles for all of us.

Why Chose Ceramic Tiles?

Ceramic tiles have been valued for their beauty and durability for centuries. In the ancient civilisations of Egypt, Greece and Rome, tiles were used as a functional material and as decoration in the houses of the most important citizens as well as public buildings such as baths and temples.

The fact that when these buildings are excavated the tiled floors are still intact which is a testament to the durability of ceramic tiles.

Ceramic Tiles, particularly floor tiles are once again at the very height of fashion. People are choosing ceramic tiles for many reasons. To start with hard flooring is now more popular than carpet and ceramic is the most durable of domestic hard flooring. A tiled floor should last for many years.

Ceramic tiles are very safe, they are non flammable and do not conduct electricity, they are hygienic and don't attract or absorb dirt and they are very easy to clean. They are also healthy and ideal for those with asthma or allergies as they don't harbour dust, pollen, dust mites, or cancer causing benzine from car fumes.

Ceramic tiles are very comfortable under foot. They have thermal insulation and soundproofing qualities. They are not cold; they actually absorb and retain heat like mini storage heaters. They are also odour free and unlike fabrics and carpets they do not absorb odours.

But above all ceramic tiles are attractive, there is nothing that quite transforms a room like tiles; and tiles will also add value to your home.

Don't worry about the cost, tiles are no more expensive than many other floor or wall coverings. As tiles last such a long time looking almost exactly as they did when new; taken over their design life they are far cheaper than wallpaper, wood or carpet.
